Greenworks Energy at Lilly Energy Day
Greenworks Energy was pleased to participate in the Lilly Energy Day on October 20th, 2010.
Our president/owner, Ryan Stout presented an Introduction to Energy Efficiency and Alternative Energy via a web presentation available to Lilly employees around the globe. Among the topics presented were: Energy Principles, Energy Efficiency & Conservation, Renewable Energy Systems, Solar Photovoltaic, Wind Generation, Solar Thermal and Federal, State, & Local Incentives.
In addition to the web presentation, Greenworks was given the opportunity to educate local Indianapolis Lilly employees one-on-one at the corporate headquarters. For information about renewable energy or educational opportunites please contact us directly.

A Greener Lilly
Doing our part to protect the environment is a key area of focus for Lilly’s corporate responsibility. Here is an update from my colleague, Greg Spratt, who leads our company’s environmental sustainability efforts.
On Monday, Newsweek’s 2010 Green Rankings came out, and I’m happy to say that we jumped from #123 to #58 on the U.S. list. We are proud of the progress we have made on our environmental work and are pleased that our Newsweek ranking has improved significantly.
This is the result of tremendous efforts by Lilly employees, including those at our global manufacturing sites. They’ve committed to achieving our environmental goals listed below:
- 15% improvement in energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction
- 25% reduction in water intake
- 40% reduction in waste to landfill
We’re on track to hit our energy target and have “knocked the ball out of the park” on our water and waste goals in just the first two years (30% reduction in water intake and over 50% reduction in waste to landfills). These improvements just don’t happen. They’re the result of conscious efforts to improve operations, reduce, reuse, and recycle materials, and increase employee awareness and action toward these goals.
I am most excited about the commitment of our employees to this important work. The progress on our goals would not happen without the creative ideas that are generated at the grassroots level by employees who are passionate about making a positive environmental impact. In addition, we have employees around the world who have formed “sustainability clubs” to work on these issues. For example, they have initiated local recycling programs, carpooling services, and educational seminars.
Lastly, we had an important day at Lilly yesterday when more than 38 sites around the globe participated in “Energy Day.” These efforts were dedicated to educating our workforce on more sustainable energy usage, both at work and at home.
We will be providing additional updates on LillyPad regarding our environmental work. Thank you for your interest, Greg
